Your initial installation and hardening.
One-time preparation for the storage system you will operate. These are agreed initial deployment layouts, rather than preinstalled defaults.
- Debian minimal installation with current updates at deployment.
- OpenZFS data storage with the tier’s agreed RAID layout, datasets, and permissions.
- OpenSSH, SFTP, and rsync over SSH.
- A client administrator account using your supplied SSH public key.
- Initial firewall and SSH hardening for IPv4 and IPv6, with an access profile for your stated fixed or dynamic IP use.
- SMART and ZFS health tools, local scrub scheduling, and client email notification configuration.
- Initial transfer and integrity checks, reboot checks, and configuration handover.
Entry uses separately mirrored HDD boot partitions and RAIDZ2 on the remaining HDD partitions. The other tiers use mirrored NVMe system drives and the stated HDD data pool. Enterprise uses two seven-drive RAIDZ2 groups.

SDH installs and hardens your storage system, configures client email alerts, and coordinates supplier hardware support, software recovery, and RAID rebuild requests. You administer and maintain the server after handover.
Separately charged recovery work is scoped before it begins. This is not an ongoing SDH maintenance, monitoring or managed backup service. RAID and local snapshots are not independent backups.

Your access and approval
- Provide a fully qualified server hostname under a domain you control and describe the workload and access requirements.
- Provide one OpenSSH public key; Ed25519 is recommended. Never send an SSH private key, password, API token or other secret through an ordinary inquiry or checkout field.
- SDH tests your administrator access and removes its temporary setup key after you confirm successful access.
Fixed or dynamic IP access
- A dynamic public IP is supported; a permanent IP allowlist is not a universal purchase requirement.
- For fixed access, provide the IPv4/IPv6 addresses or CIDRs you want allowed. For dynamic access, state Dynamic IP and agree a suitable secure access profile.
- The standard service includes a 1 Gbps uplink, one public IPv4 and IPv6. Additional network services require a separately priced offer.
Client email notifications
- Provide the recipient for disk, ZFS and capacity alerts, along with any non-secret email delivery notes.
- Notification delivery is configured and a test email verified during deployment and handover. Entering an email address on the website does not send or configure alerts.
- Exchange SMTP credentials only through the agreed secure onboarding channel. You receive and act on subsequent notifications.
After handover and at termination
- You maintain the operating system, software, security, capacity and server configuration after handover.
- Maintain an independent backup and export any required data before termination. RAID and local snapshots are not independent backups.
- SDH coordinates supplier hardware support, software recovery and RAID rebuild requests. Separately charged recovery work is scoped before it begins; recovery success is not guaranteed.

Is this a managed backup or monitoring service?
These are dedicated, unmanaged storage servers with one-time SDH installation and hardening. You administer, patch and secure the server and act on client email alerts after handover. Ongoing maintenance, a managed backup destination, retention and SDH monitoring response are not included. RAID and local snapshots are not independent backups.
How much space is available for data?
Proposed nominal HDD RAID capacity is approximately 32 TB for Entry, 96 TB for Standard, 132 TB for Pro and 220 TB for Enterprise. Entry uses mirrored HDD boot partitions with the remaining HDD partitions in RAIDZ2. Standard and Pro use RAIDZ2; Enterprise uses two seven-drive RAIDZ2 groups. RAID capacity is approximate. Formatting, system use, and operating headroom reduce the space available for data. Entry has no included NVMe; the other tiers use a mirrored NVMe system layout, separate from HDD data capacity. The final layout is agreed during setup.
Where do I choose my server location?
Choose Falkenstein, Germany or Helsinki, Finland using the Location option at checkout after selecting Order Now for your package. Both locations use the same listed prices. Availability is checked when your order is reviewed. A listed package or location does not guarantee stock or an immediate delivery date.
When is setup free?
Free setup with annual-or-longer prepaid subscriptions. Contact SDH for a quotation. A 12-month commitment paid monthly still pays the monthly-billing setup fee, charged once. No annual total, discount or setup waiver is applied automatically. Prices exclude applicable taxes.
What is included in the initial setup?
SDH installs Debian minimal with current updates at deployment, configures OpenZFS with the agreed disk layout, datasets and permissions, and provides OpenSSH, SFTP and rsync over SSH with a client public-key administrator account. Initial firewall and SSH hardening cover IPv4 and IPv6. SMART and ZFS health tools, local scrub scheduling, client email notification configuration, transfer and integrity checks, reboot checks and configuration handover are included as one-time setup.
Can I use a dynamic public IP?
Yes. State whether your administrator access uses a dynamic public IP or fixed addresses/CIDRs so SDH can agree a suitable secure access profile. Share only an SSH public key through the normal order process; private keys and other credentials belong in secure onboarding. SDH removes its temporary setup key after you confirm successful client access.
